Mossy Leaf Tail
Uroplatus sikorae     Mossy Leaftail

There is surely no animal with more cryptic camoflauge than the mossy leaftail.  Mossy's are out of this world looking.  The body is not only a perfect match for tree bark in color and pattern but in texture as well.  As if matching the bark perfectly weren't enough this gecko also has beautiful green and grey lichen markings scattered about as well.  They also have a uneven fringe of skin that runs around their body.  This gives them the ability to flatten against the bark and have the fringe break up the body's outline.  These animals are so good at blending with the bark that you can be holding it in your hand and still have a hard time making out the toes and the outline of the body.  These are truly fantastic animals and I dearly hope to find a mate for the one I currently keep and attempt to breed them.  They do well in captivity when kept a bit cooler than most geckos.  They seem to do better in the 70's with the high end of their heat tolerance  being the low 80's.  When keeping any leaftail it is a good idea to use a fairly soft substrate as they pounce on thir prey rather violently and can injure their snouts on harder substrates.

Leopard Geckos have been kept and bred fo so long and so much has been written on them already that there's really not much I can add.  I purchased my leopards because of their personality and color.  They are easy to keep and both beautiful and interesting to watch.  I don't usually handle them but when I do need to move them around they tolerate me quite well.  Overall they are laid back little guys that tend to snooze all day when left alone.  When feeding however they can be fairly quick as compared to their stocky appearance.  They are hearty eaters and will happily take frozen thawed pinkies from my forceps.  An interesting note on their temperment is that keeping them at eye level tends to make them calmer and more tolerant of you.

These geckos can come in various colors.  The pair that I have are the most brightly colored ones I have seen.  My male is bright yellow and my female is a deep rich orange.  I am fortunate in that they both have retained their tails and are absolutely perfect specimens in every way.  These geckos need a diet that includes both crickets and fruit.  I keep pineapple babyfood mixed with Minerall in my tank at all times.  You can get them to live on crickets alone but I have been told many times you have a much brighter healthier animal if you include the fruit in their diet.  They tend to sleep curled up under a log or their food dish during the day and come out late at night.  These are beautiful  easy to keep animals that I hope prove easy to breed as well.
