Aphonopelma seemanni Costa Rican Zebra This is a medium sized species that I have yet to see any aggression from. They do tend to be a bit flicky and prone to run but are not vicious by any means. Although not the most expensive species out there a freshly molted female in top condition can rival anything in beauty. There is a brown morph that in my opinion pales in comparison to a truly black and white female. My female, cheap spider that she is can hang with most anything in my collection when it comes to contrast and cleanness of pattern. Check out her picture. I put her against any Zebra out there.

Theraphosa blondi Goliath Birdeater Although the Goliath Pinkfoot actually gets a bigger leg span T blondi is the bulkiest and has always held the mystical title of "largest spider in the world". I tried to not like blondis as I'm a color freak and had convinced myself that this was a big brown spider. Well, after having obtained an adult female some time back let me tell ya I am a blondi fan now! Freshly out of a molt they are almost black with silvery highlights and nice leg striping, this turns to a reddish cinnamon as time passes. The thing that makes a blondi so special is not however it's color. It is the immense size. With a blondi it's not just the legspan it is the overall mass that is so impressive. P ornata can approch their legspan as can L parahybana but when you compare abdomen size, thickness of legs and such nothing else even compares. Wicked evil temper on these guys too. They seem to know how big they are and like to show it. They have the worst urticating hair I have come across as well. None of the other species hair seems to bother me but blondi hair gets me scratching every time.

Avicularia hurriana Equadorian Wooly Pinktoe Hurriana is one of the largest Avics and are quite nice looking. They have a purple color on the legs and cephalothorax with a wine colored abdomen. All the opinions that I have read on hurriana depicts them being aggressive and prone to bite. I find this to be completely untrue as my hurriana is the calmest Avic I own hands down, and one of my calmest spiders period. I have also heard from others who have hurriana who have seen the same calm behavior as myself. Therefore I believe the stories about the "mean hurrianas" come from people scared away by their rather vigorous feeding response. These guys kick butt and do not deserve the bogus "mean spider" rap that they have been given by people either afraid of them or who do not actually own one in the first place. They are big, fuzzy as crap, colorful, and yes...docile.
