Xenesthis immanis
Columbian Lesser Black

Among the most expensive and until recently one of the hardest to obtain species, Xenesthis are big mean monsters with wicked purple/pink highlights and one of the baddest attitudes out there.  I love Xenesthis dearly and still view them as, if not on top of the coolness pile at least not far from it at all.  I only wish I had more of them.  When I first started buying some of the more expensive species I immediately wanted Xenesthis.  I wound up searching and waiting over a year and a half to find one.  Through a good friend I got my first ones.  Two females that were originally raised by Sam Marshall.  One has since passed away but the other remains one of the most awesome spiders in my collection.

Acanthoscurria geniculata
Giant Whiteknee

In my opinion geniculata is one of the species that does not derserve the low price tag that the 1000 babies per egg sack production rate has brought it down to.  This is truly one awesome species reaching something like 8 inches or so while maintaining a beautiful highly contrasting pattern.    Of the larger species, genics are certainly one of the most attractive.  They are monstrous eaters as well, rarely turning down a meal.  This is a fairly aggressive species  but not very hard to work with.  They are more prone to stand their ground and display rather than do a mad dash across the floor.

Aphonopelma anax     Texas Tan

Texas Tans were one of the first pairs I acquired and I like this species quite a bit.  Most Aphonopelma are somewhat muted being mostly various shades of brown and black.  Tans while not being extremely flashy are very attractive in their own right.  Tans are also among the easiest  of all the species to keep being very tolerant of being forgotten and going dry.  Tans have a real long life span as well, in the 20 to 30 year range.  Their temperement is a bit quirky as they aren't aggressive but do have their moments.

Brachypelma smithi     Redknee

A hobby classic, bulky, great color and as docile as can be.  Easy to keep like any Brachy and worth every penny.  The adult females of this species are fantastic when freshly molted.
