Aphonopelma moderatum Rio Grande Gold A moderatum is a long-lived species that takes quite a while to reach adulthood. Once it does reach adulthood this medium sized species becomes one of the most beautiful looking of all the Aphonepelma. The combination of dark black and vivid gold is stunning on a freshly molted adult. The attitude of this species seems to be typical of most Aphonopelma in that it is pretty easy going and from what I have observed nonaggressive. This species has become available recently on many dealer lists and this has resulted in a decrease in price for this species over the last year or so. Nonetheless this species is a vividly colored display animal that doesn't tend to stay hidden all the time. As I said before spiderlings take a long time to grow but once they get to adult size, man are they ever worth the time invested.

Avicularia braunshauseni Avic braunshauseni is one of the largest avics reaching 7 inches from the information I have found. I cannot attest to this fact as I have not grown one of this species to adulthood yet. This is a large attractive species and not as common as many of the Avics. It is also interesting to note that out of the 10 species of Avics I have in my collection braunshauseni is the only one to have acted aggressively. I have seen braunshauseni rear up and strike at one or less inch in size. Typically even the more aggressive species do not display this behavior until they get some more size on them. this is definately a cool Avic with a unique personality as far as Avics go.

Psalmopoeus cambridgei Trinidad Chevron A freshly molted chevron is a very pretty mossy green all over with bright orange markings on the tips of the feet. The chevron abdomen markings that give this spider it's name are also prominent and contrast nicely with the green. This is a pretty big species reaching around the 7 inch mark and makes a very attractive display animal. These aren't the most colorful spider in the world but have a very attractive overall appearance. Cambridgei also have a less fuzzy, more sculpted or cleaner look to them. Their temperament is best described as bad. Chevron's will bite when provoked and do not take kindly to being touched. This species is easy to keep and a classic in the hobby. Cambridgei are definitely on the fast and mean side of the fence. This is an excellent spider that no collection should be without.
