Centruroides exilicauda     Arizona Bark Scorpion

HOT! HOT! HOT!

This is a fairly small species reaching a bit over 2 inches.  It is an attractive yellow and one of the more brightly colored scorps.  This species also does very well communally.  Arizona Bark Scorps definitely fall into the medically signifigant do not touch them category.  As I have said before I am not a scorp expert and do not claim to be one, however I do know that this species is to be respected.  The information that I have been able to gather seems to indicate that the eldery and the very young are most at risk but nonetheless this is not a species to take lightly.  Quite a few people in Arizona get to experience an unpleasant hospital trip each year courtesy of these guys.  This is an awesome little species of scorp that makes a great display if treated with the respect it deserves.

Hadogenes troglodytes
Flat Rock Scorpion

This scorp has an extremely flattened body for squeezing into the small rock crevices it calls home.  Flat rocks are equipped with a very small  stinger and a mild venom that is not dangerous.  This species will however pinch just like an emperor if threatened.  This species is a truly bizzare looking scorp and a very good display addition to any invert collection.

Giant Desert Hairy Scorp
Hadrurus sp.     Giant Hairy Scorpion

This is one of the more ominous looking of the scorps commonly available.  Giant Hairy Scorpions have nicely colored bright yellow legs contrasting a black body.  This species also reaches an impressive size in the 6 inch neighborhood.  The sting of the Giant Hairy Scorp is reported to be mild and of no consequence.  This is a great easy to keep scorp that looks more dangerous than it actually is.

Tri Color Hissing Scorpion
Opistophthalmus sp.
Tri-Color Hissing Scorpion

This is a fairly large attractive species with a fiesty attitude.  It is quick to pinch or sting if agitated. This is also one of the hissing species making it even cooler.  They make a sound sort of like a wind-up toy by rubbing their chelicerae.  These are not the biggest scorp out there but they have alot of personality and they hiss.  What more could you ask for?
